Was there ever a time when you felt overwhelmed with your workload but you couldn’t find the time during your normal work hours?  Would it be nice to work at home at a comfortable and leisurely pace (after putting your kids to bed, etc.)?  The IT department has heard your cries.  Introducing TWO new services that are available to ALL Teachers and Staff of WSCSD:

1.                             Remote Access – We are offering remote access to the district network using “Citrix”.  Citrix makes a product that gives a user a “virtual Windows computer”.  It is ideally suited to provide access to your Staff Home directory and any local resources that are protected from the Internet (i.e. Open District web site).  All the programs that you may need are on the Citrix servers.  Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) are all available to use within Citrix.  Additionally, we’ve added Adobe Acrobat Professional for PDF creation and Macromedia StudioMX for web site development.  Here are some Pros & Cons:

PROS:

-All the software is immediately available

-You save directly to your Staff Home directory

(no need to carry disks/USB flash drives back and forth)

-You can connect from anywhere in the world that has Internet access

-Citrix client software supports many operating systems

(Macintosh OS 9, OS X, All Windows versions, etc.)

              -Any common folders are available

-FirstClass client software runs much faster

-It is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year

(barring any problems with the Citrix servers and BOCES’ Internet connection)

              -Connection is secure and encrypted

              -Relatively simple to connect

CONS:

              -CANNOT run MacSchool

              -CANNOT run eClass grades

-Not all software runs under the Citrix environment

Interested?  Please contact Stephen Yi.  In order for your SENECA-NET account to have access to Citrix, you must go through an orientation session.

Directions for Remote Access via Citrix has been posted on the IT Department Directions Page

2.                             Software for Home Use – Some software vendors’ license agreement allows us to provide copies of their software for use at home for work related tasks.  Microsoft and Macromedia allows us to provide this service to the teachers and staff of WSCSD.  Even though we recommend using Citrix for “working at home”, we can provide Microsoft’s Office suite (for Macintosh and Windows) for all teachers and staff of West Seneca Central and Macromedia’s Studio MX (for High School teachers and Staff ONLY).

Here is a quote from Microsoft’s web site:

“Work at Home Rights for Academic Volume Licensing Customers

Qualified Education Customers who have acquired licenses through Microsoft's Academic Volume Licensing programs may grant to their faculty and staff the right to use a second copy of a limited selection of products on either a home or portable computer for work-related purposes.

To request a copy of Microsoft Office for "Work at Home" use:
